feeling.. trapped

i know most of you probably don't care, but i'm sure this is an issue a lot of us deal with at some point in our lives. i'm feeling very trapped.

on one hand, there is Crisis Point, the thing i want to do. on the other hand is maplesim, what the majority of you want me to make. i'm going to be honest here. i need money. desperately. we don't have enough to make rent this month and i'm selling about half of the stuff i own to try and make up for it. somebody just offered me $50 in donations to start working on maplesim again.. meanwhile, not a single donation has shown up for crisis point. as much as i want to keep working on it, i can't expect to see any money for it for months, at the very least. it's an ambitious project and my only hope of income from it is finishing the game and hoping to god people buy it instead of pirating. meanwhile, people are already lining up to donate to maplesim.

maplesim robs me of creativity. it is literally there purely for the sake of fapping. art, game design, enemy design.. all of it exists within maplestory already. i have no creative control over anything but the sex scenes, and for a game designer like myself.. it's depressing, quite honestly. even if you ignore the uncertain legal waters i'd be getting myself into by asking for donations to maplesim, i still have no freedom with the project. i can't make the game of my dreams with it - or even a game i'm interested in. it would be purely for the money.

crisis point is so much fun to work on. i have unlimited arristic and design creativity with it. i can literally go anywhere and do anything with it and nobody can really say otherwise, there are no rules. but as much as i love it, fun doesn't pay my bills.. i'm feeling trapped. not sure where to go from here. :/

  1. Sorry to hear about your situation A43 :/ It's good to hear that you love working on Crisis Point though! I hope you can just find a way to stabilize yourself in your current situation. Maplesim is definitely a shifty move, taking in donations. And I would advise against it since the risk there is very high. (Which sucks to hear you discontinued it -for now potentially- cause I loved that game, and it was the best thing ever ): but your well being is more important! Good luck, and tough it out. Do whatever it takes to keep your head above the water. Wishing the best for you dude.

    1. thanks for the well wishes. i know a lot of people loved maplesim, and i won't say that i'm never going to go back to it - but if i do, it won't be some grand, massive project. i would be doing it for the fans, not as much for the fun of making it. still, i don't want you guys to think i don't care or anything.

  2. I may sound like a dick, but a lot of us were brought here because of your Maplesim skills, and we like to see a lot of it because you really do make better art than the others on rule34. Don't get me wrong Crisis Point is good and I am all for it, since it's a nice change of pace for you. The problem is your crowd you currently have is here for Maplesim. This goes back to advertising you mentioned awhile back. Have to bring yourself out there somehow. Idk how current game makers of this similar genre get their base, contact them personally maybe?

    1. just for the record, you don't sound like a dick. i get that a lot of the fanbase here were drawn to the blog because of maplesim, i was just hoping that there would be more excitement for a bigger, more personal project, you know? my animation potential with maplesim is so limited. hell, potential with maplesim in general is extremely limited. and to compound the problems, i can't make money off of it - which wouldn't be as big of an issue if i was still interested in working with maplesim, as i want my own desires to come before money, but i'm not entirely interested in maplesim either at this point.

working on it has just grown stale.. i can't really have fun with it :\ posing maple characters is awkward, with their huge heads and small bodies, and it's all just a really big hassle to work with. there's a reason maplestory's character animations - the official ones - all look like crap. the sprites are very awkward to deal with.

    2. Thanks for replying, and thanks for not making me sound like a dick. But why not try to balance both? Do Maplesim and Crisis point, and also donations are donations, they aren't exactly "paying" you to do Maplesim. It's donating to help you do whatever future work you plan to do.

I know it must get boring working with Maplesim, since the animations are really awkward as well as limited creativity in mind. But still it's a great way to grab people who just plainly like Maplestory rule 34. On top of that you can advertise Crisis Point. That's all in my opinion though, I have never been in a situation like this before.

  3. If you're worried about piracy, generally speaking, the people who pirate games wouldn't pay for them in the first place. If the game is good and people are interested in more, you'll get your purchases.

There are hundreds who could have pirated Kurovadis from Kyrieru. But Kyrieru made a decent amount of money (regardless of the piracy) because it was a great game and we wanted more.

I personally didn't buy Eroico, but I didn't pirate it either. I simply wasn't as taken in by the demo as I was with Kurovadis... Though I am likely going to buy the game he's working on now... If he even finishes it. Or any of the ones I took interest in that he scrapped.

As for money/rent... Dude, get a job. Even if it is something small or part time to pay the bills until you can get on your feet with this game.

Also, avoid legal issues at all times.

    1. "Dude, get a job."

i'm sure you know just as well as the rest of us do that life isn't that black and white. what makes you so sure i don't have a job in the first place? maybe i do and it's not enough to pay the bills. in any case, if taking care of my money problems was that easy, i'd already be doing it.

and i do intend to avoid legal issues. i was skeptical of selling Crisis Point at first just because i've never had to deal with selling a product before. i wouldn't want to risk getting into a legal battle with nexon, i'd be fucked. IF I ever continue maplesim (which, currently, i have extremely limited interest in doing,) it won't be for money.

    2. I realize it's not as easy as simply saying "get a job." I'm in the middle of doing the same thing. I get the added benefit of being able to simply do a bit of drawing here and there for a bit of extra income. But what I meant by "get a job" was to find a genuine 9-5 job with actual potential for promotion/advancement and work on your games second. If, by some miracle, you discover later that you can make a living off games, then by all means do it, but focus more on getting a genuine job to pay the bills before you focus on a game.

  4. I admit, I was originally drawn here for the MapleSim, I mean guess its one of the few games where I found the girls cute....maybe cus it was my first MMORPG. However I am sorry to hear things are going as such, I would gladly donate but money is tight here as well.

Perhaps an alternative would be to make a new, much smaller game for a cheaper price just to push some income or even a "game" that is just random animations of different things. Id buy it personally but that is also how I treat most games like Shinobi girl/Witch Girl and LAB. Their okay games, but I frequent the gallery and by pass the game themselves most times.

    1. just hearing the well wishes of people helps a lot man, donations or not. hell, the fact that people WANT to donate astonishes and humbles me. i don't think my work is all that great lol, but then again, what creator does?

i've been considering going the route of a smaller game, actually. i just haven't decided exactly what i would do with that idea, or if it would be worth it in the long run. i know i have quite a few people looking forward to Crisis Point already, and i'd hate to disappoint them, but it might be smarter to come back to it in a few months after i have a steadier financial foothold..

  6. Look man, try to find a balance, this is a grown up man talking here (not pervert, just gamer, ok?). Money is very important but so is doing what you want. Go ahead, keep it up and focus in what will make you have some time for your project (meaning, if you manage to finish a profitable project, go ahead). About the naked sprites, the boobs look cool, but the nipples look a little vulgar (that proportion is really ugly in real life). Don quit your project, but don't starve either, your brain won't work while hungry after all ;)

Cheer up, pull yourself together :D

    1. Speaking as a perv.....dem titties look nice! Maybe just me though xD

    2. i honestly don't know how i would even change them. at the size i'm working with, the nipples can either be the size they are, or horribly tiny compared to her breasts. i don't think the proportions are really ugly, personally. it's not like they take up half of her chest or anything lol.

as for the rest of your comment, that reasoning is exactly what i was struggling with. i don't want money to control what i work on, but sometimes you don't really have a choice, you know? can't exactly keep working on anything without food or a roof over my head.

everyone's comments have been a huge morale boost, though. i needed it after the rough few weeks i've been going through, so.. thanks a lot for all the support, all of you. it really means a lot.

    3. You just answered your question yourself: make the sprites a little larger so some detarils like nipples can be managed. :D

    4. Another thing: Look, we all go trough hardships every now and then. I was stolen my lifetime savings on september 2013 (50 grand). I felt lost, frustrated.. all you can imagine i felt (and some i did, like overdosing). But in the end i had to pull myself together and now i'm standing up again.. I wish i could donate to you but for the time beeing i will provide suggestions and good will. Keep it up, will ya? :D

    5. you do realize "make the sprites a little larger" means several days, possibly even a week of reworking absolutely everything, don't you? nothing would be the same. game physics would need to be modified, level design would need to be retooled, every single animation and graphic would need to be redetailed - or worse, completely redone from scratch.

no. absolutely not. making the sprites a little larger would be a terrible waste of my time at this point. they're already significantly larger than a ton of h-games use, more than enough for good detail, and i haven't really heard any other complaints about the nipple size. sorry if you don't like them, but with the amount of work it would take to redo everything at this point, and the crushing blow to motivation reworking every graphic would deal, it's not even close to something i would consider, sorry.

also, apologies if that seemed rude or anything. if you knew how much effort it would take to make them a little bigger you would get why just thinking about it is enough to induce a mini panic attack, lol.

    6. No hard feelings. Even thouofh i was a CSE i never made any game, but i understand. How about me talking about helping you? i'm currently unemployed and totally broke as i told on my previous reply, so it would be nice to backtrack to my programming and designing days. Just let me know.

  7. I for one think that crisis point will be an epic game if it ever becomes comepleted and if/when it does it can join the elite group of free h-games that bounce around the internet experienced by everyone, which would give you so much staying power especially because it would be GOOD unlike most of them n_n; .

    1. Crisis Point won't be free, i already established it'll cost money. probably around $15. still, i'm glad you like it that much and have faith that it'll be good lol.

  8. I think you should get a job that let's you pay your food and rent; then, once you are in a stable situation, you can resume your work on either game, which, personally, I would prefer to be Crisis point, since I can literally count high quality Metroidvania games with one hand. Even if reaching such stable situation takes you months.

  9. Speaking from seeing kyrieru's rise, i'd say that making a 'prequel' to crisis point that's a much smaller, five dollar game would rake in some cash, and still give people the crisis point fix. Also take even less time since you have a basic engine up and running for it now.

By the way, whats maplesim??? i honestly have never heard of it, and as you can tell, i was brought here by your work on crisis point.

The internet can wait for your game though, so take your time and make sure to set yourself in a comfy position again so you can enjoy working on this project like we all want!

    1. Just as long as he doesn't end up like Kyrieru and constantly flip flop around projects, haha...

    2. lol, don't worry too much about that. i've had plenty of ideas since starting crisis point but i'm dedicated to this project until it's done or i can't feasibly continue working on it due to time/money constraints. after that though.. i have plenty of other ideas.

@sythis - maplesim is an old project of mine from back when i started making hentai. it was basically a maplestory hentai game where you could customize the girl and her dialogue and sex her up in a few different positions. as for a prequel idea.. i'm not really feeling that. i have another thought in my head if i ever have to put crisis point on hold to make some quick money with something else, though. thanks for the thoughts.

    3. No problem, and hey, it's great to see another english speaking hentai game developer enter the fray, seems this scene has started to blow up recently, which is never a bad thing. :D

Hopefully i actually get around to putting my ideas into motion for a game, got a few that'd be simple and work well to be a good start, since i'm not anywhere near professional level. :P

  10. I too am busy as well struggles man. I know how it feels. I have a few suggestions that can help you out with this whole problem.

    1. Use the maplesim as a donation pull in. It doesn't have to be any big project, but the more people you pull in, the more you can get the donations to help you out.

    2. Focus solely on Crisis for now and save the maplesim for later. Creativity does take a lot out of us (being a writer, it's hard to put creativity into some things you have to do) when we hit that roadblock that stops us.

Don't give up on yourself, man. While some things may put you down, just keep going and try no matter what happens. If you want maplesim to come first, go ahead and do that. If you want Crisis to come first, I don't mind at all. The choice is yours. Just be strong and keep going to work hard on what you love doing. Besides, I'd donate some money too myself if I wasn't so busy with life.

Keep going man, you have our support.

    2. I dropped you $15 2 days ago, but i'm not sure how the system works, so i hope you've recieved it!

I'd love for this project to succeed, cuz i mean, common, who doesn't like porn? or games? or games with porn?

+1 for originality as well, and another +1 for you since you take critiques of your work well. :P

Hope life treats you better soon, we all gotta help each other out!~

    3. yeah, i got that one too! i was planning on making a new blog post just to thank everybody who donated (not by name, in case they didn't want to be mentioned directly,) but i'll settle for doing it individually for now. thank you too! for both the donation and helping fix the glitch over on ULMF, lol

things are getting a bit better for me. my financial situation is improving a ton thanks to you guys (holy crap, over $80 donated so far!!) and all of the comments and feedback is keeping me motivated to work more on the project. even if it takes a while, I WILL finish crisis point - i wouldn't feel right getting donations from you guys and not delivering!
